Machine Learning Approach to Customer Requirement Management for Customer-Driven Product Design Decisions
Abstract
Customer requirement management aims to capture and understand
customer requirements and subsequently transfer them into design
specifications as the guideline of product design. It has become
one of the principal factors for product development to succeed
in the marketplace. Efforts devoted in elicitation and analysis
of customers need may improve product quality, reduces lead time
and maximizes profits. The difficulties lie in
- Contextual mismatching between customers and designers,
- Lack of definite structures in requirement expressions, and
- Lack of structured mapping of requirements to specifications
In order to address these issues, we propose to apply machine learning
approaches on customer documents, for instance customer evaluation
towards existing products, to discover patterns of customer requirements.
These patterns facilitate the recognition of customer requirements.
The scope of this research includes text mining on customer documents,
discovery of customer requirement structure, computational processes
for requirement interpretation knowledgebase enrichment, self-learning
algorithms and methods to derive design specifications from customer requirements.
